Miscou Island Marram Grass Planting
Join us in restoring and protecting the natural beauty of Miscou Island's coastline by replanting re-plant marram grass to stabilize the sand dunes.
September 21, 2024
Looking for an opportunity to help protect coastal habitat? Join the Healthy Coasts NB team and Miscou Island community partners for an afternoon of dune grass-planting on the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s Miscou Island Goose Lake Nature Reserve.
Climate change and erosion are causing Miscou Island beaches and dunes to quickly disappear. It is important to protect the grasses and trees here as their roots hold the sand together. These dunes help protect habitat for animals, plants and people’s homes and cottages. Help nature and be part of the solution to protecting our beautiful Miscou Island.

Beach Clean-Up Mission - Miscou Lighthouse Shoreline 2023.
June 10 and June 17, 2023
Looking for an opportunity to help protect coastal habitat? Join the GHOST GEAR DISAPPEAR INC. and Miscou Island community partners for an afternoon of Beach Clen-Up at tMiscou Island Lighthouse shore, Birch Point Cape, New Brunswick.
Help us tackle the problem of ghost fishing gear and marine debris that washes up on our Island Pride beaches. By participating in this event, you'll make a difference in preserving our marine ecosystem and protecting marine life on our beautiful Miscou Island.
At this half-day event we will be continuing our effort to clean up ghost gear from the Lighthouse northeastern shoreline at Birch Point Cape, Miscou. The latest storms from 2023 and the fall of 2022 left washed-up fishing gear and debris scattered in the beaches and along the shoreline around the Miscou Island. We’ve already hot-spot mapped and cleaned big part of the island, and we need your help to finish the job!
GHOST GEAR DISAPPEAR INC. is part of the Ghost Gear 2023 Program managed by DFO. We are working closely with our partners from The Healthy Coast NB and Nature NB in various conservation and community engagement events across the Maritimes shoreline.
